A Village Rebuilt Away From the River in 1870
St. Joseph relocated a mile and a half north in 1870, away from its original riverside site near the Salt Fork, before organizing formally as a village in 1881. That relocated site is where the village's housing stock -- and its HVAC systems -- have been built and rebuilt for the century and a half since.
Retrofitting Heating and Cooling in an Older Village Core
Homes from St. Joseph's earlier building decades after the 1870 move typically added forced-air heating and cooling well after original construction, and older ductwork there can be undersized or awkwardly routed for a modern system. HVAC replacement in the village's oldest blocks should start with an assessment of that existing ductwork.
